New Update! - November 18th, 2008
Allen arrives on Wednesday morning in Michigan

On Wednesday, November 19th, Allen will arrive at Detroit International Airport. We ask that all of you continue to pray for Allen and Nyaka as his journey is really just beginning. The next month or so will be full of surgery and difficult rehabilitation. In the end, we hope and pray that this operation generously donated from University of Michigan hospital will dramatically improve the quality of Allen's life. More updates will be coming as we get them.

Thank you to all for your generosity. Allen is not the only disabled child we work with. At Nyaka, we will continue to work tirelessly for all orphans and vulnerable children and build toward a future free of poverty and HIV/AIDS.

Allen's story

Allen was born with a form of neuro-muscular disorder that prevents the full functionality of the use of his legs and a very limited range of motion in his arms. Although not an orphan, Allen is a vulnerable child in Uganda because of his disability and would not receive proper care and attention if he attended a rural public school.

University of Michigan Hospital has donated their services to operate on Allen's arm and if that goes well, they will also operate on his legs. The purpose of these surgeries is to give Allen the ability to use his wheel chair independently without being pushed by someone. Right now, Allen must rely on others to transport him and to provide most care. The operation on his arm will help Allen be more independent.

Once again, thank you all for your generosity and support!
