Books for Nyaka
For Saydee Rose's 3rd birthday, her birthday party was the perfect opportunity to collect
children's books to be donated to the Nyaka AIDS Orphans School community library project.
Thanks to sweet Saydee Rose and her mother, Janet Damon (a school librarian) for this wonderful gift!

McDonald Middle School Friends of Nyaka group raises $390 for Solar Lamps
After attending a presentation about Nyaka earlier this spring, 7th grade student, Susan Flores wanted to do something for
the children at Nyaka. She spread the word in her classes at McDonald Middle School in East Lansing, MI, and set up a
meeting at her school. After seeing a picture of a young girl severely burned from a paraffin lamp, the students wanted
to raise money for solar lamps. Susan organized a fundraiser and the group raised $390. These 7th grade students proved
they could make a huge difference! Thank you Susan for leading this effort!!
Hope Middle School student writes letter on behalf of Nyaka
From a letter written by 6th grade student, Elise Maynard, to her family and friends:
"As you guys all may know my classes in Language arts and Social studies have been learning about a school in southern Uganda!!! This school is called Nyaka and it gives kids in Uganda, that may be orphans, get a free education and health care there. We are being pen pals and I think donating some things!!! We are writing letters to people like Ellen, Alicia Keys, Bono, and Oprah to try and get this girl, whose name is Justine, to come to America to get surgery because she is severely burned throughout her whole body from a oil lamp accident!!!
Recently another boy from Nyaka (Allen) HAS come from Uganda to get medical attention here and we were very excited to see him today because we love to see someone who is overly grateful for a simple t-shirt we gave him!!!! (He was soooo sweet and everyone wonders how they can be grateful with Uganda's conditions, but this boy never stops smiling!!!) Here is their website and a few videos, check them out and when you all sit down to eat your thanksgiving "feast" think of these kids who barely have anything- they used to live off of less than 1 meal a day but Nyaka helps them to get 2 meals a day. Also they have a clean water system and they get health care- it is soooooooooo important there because people have to walk miles to see a doctor!!!! Thanks for reading this I know it was long!!!"
From all of us at Nyaka, thank you Elise for your wonderful letter on behalf of the children of Nyaka to your family and friends.
